On the occasion of the 46th anniversary of our African Organization of Trade Unions in Mining, Energy, Chemistry and Allied Sectors (OASMMECA), we are pleased and honored to officially announce the launch of our new website.
This event marks an important milestone in strengthening our visibility and trade union communication across the African continent.
On this symbolic date, we also celebrate a rich trade union legacy, deeply rooted in the struggles of African workers, who uphold the values of social justice, solidarity, and dignity.
For 44 years, the headquarters of our organization has been based in Algiers, the historical capital of Pan-African solidarity.
On this occasion, we express our deep gratitude to the Algerian State for its unwavering support and constant commitment to cooperation, development, and solidarity among African peoples.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Algerian Trade Union Confederation and its two sister federations — for Petroleum and for Mines — for their steadfast support of our organization and their historic contribution to the cause of African workers.
African trade union cooperation remains at the heart of our mission.
It is a vital instrument to strengthen social rights, improve working conditions, and defend the dignity of workers in the Mining, Energy, Chemistry and Allied sectors.
We invite all our members and affiliated organizations to regularly share their activities, initiatives, and best practices, in order to highlight their achievements, share experiences, and collectively amplify the voice of the African trade union movement.
This new website is designed to be a space for information, exchange, and trade union mobilization, serving the men and women working in our sectors.
It reflects our continued commitment to defending workers’ rights, promoting social protection, enhancing occupational safety, and bringing the voice of the African world of work to continental and international institutions and partners.
Welcome to the official platform of OASMMECA.
For more than four decades, the African Organization of Trade Unions in Mines and Metals, Energy, Chemistry, and Related Activities (OASMMECA) has embodied the struggle for dignity and workers’ rights across the continent.
Founded in 1979 in Nairobi and established in Algiers since 1981, OASMMECA has evolved alongside Africa’s challenges: privatizations, exploitation of natural resources, job insecurity, energy transition, and the digital revolution.
Through its historic congresses, the organization has consolidated its role as a platform for solidarity and advocacy, bringing African unions together under one vision: to place the African worker at the heart of fair and sustainable development.
Today, OASMMECA stands as a key actor in addressing contemporary issues:
defending decent and secure work,
supporting the energy and digital transition,
strengthening social justice in the face of economic transformations.
Its action goes beyond Africa’s borders thanks to strong partnerships with the ILO, the African Union, and the World Federation of Trade Unions, affirming Africa’s place in the global labor movement.
In a changing world, OASMMECA remains true to its mission: to unite, defend, and raise the voice of African workers for a fairer and more sovereign Africa
